Salisbury Cathedral in the Summer

Salisbury Cathedral:

Discover over 800 years of history at Salisbury Cathedral, an iconic landmark with plenty to explore. Marvel at Britain’s tallest Cathedral Spire, constructed between 1310 and 1330, and, for those seeking adventure, book a tour to climb the 332 steps up to the base of the spire. A highlight of your visit will be seeing the Magna Carta—Salisbury Cathedral holds the best-preserved copy among the four remaining originals, and it’s the only one on permanent display.

Located just 20 minutes from Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral makes for an ideal addition to your day trip plans!

Stonehenge, one of the world’s most iconic ancient monuments, has captivated visitors for over 5,000 years. Although the true purpose of these mysterious stones remains unknown, visiting the Stone Circle and exploring the nearby Neolithic houses offers an unforgettable journey back in time.

Situated on Salisbury Plain, just 2 miles west of Amesbury in Wiltshire, Stonehenge is a must-see destination.

Windsor Castle:

Windsor Castle, the world’s oldest and largest occupied castle, has been a royal residence since the 11th century, when it was founded by William the Conqueror. With over 40 monarchs calling it home, the castle is filled with centuries of history and offers numerous attractions for visitors year-round. Explore opulent ceremonial rooms adorned with gold, admire magnificent portraits of kings, queens, and deities, and experience the grandeur of British history firsthand.

Families will find plenty to enjoy, with a rotating schedule of free children’s activities and the famous Changing of the Guard ceremony held every Thursday and Sunday.

Highclere Castle:

Are you a fan of Downton Abbey? If so a trip to Highclere Castle is perfect for you, visit the place where the series was set and relive some of your favourite scenes. And if that's not enough for you then a stop in Bampton Village to walk the Downton Mile and visit some even more familiar places might be right up your alley! 

 

The Downton Mile walk starts from the corner of Church View outside Bampton Library, or - as it was in the Downton Abbey village - Downton Cottage Hospital, you can also visit the grounds of St. Mary the Virgin Church. This is probably the most famous Bampton landmark, and was called St. Michael and All Angels Church in the series. The mile long walk takes you all around the town and to a variety of different places and locations used in the show!

New Forest Trails

New Forest:

If you’re looking for something more local to Hampshire then why not stop off in the New Forest? With over 140 miles of walking paths there’s so much to see and do, without breaking the bank! The walking and cycle paths are all free to use and there are even some attractions in the Forest that are free or where entry is donation only like the New Forest Heritage Centre, Hockey’s Farm and Fairweather’s Garden Centre. With so much open space and nature to explore a picnic could be the perfect option to take in the serene location and stunning views!
